Compatibility of Dwarf Hairgrass – Know the Suitable Tankmates for this Plant


When you are planting an herb in your aquarium, you have to know the comfort level of the plant, so that it can survive for a long period. Usually, Dwarf Hairgrass have less compatibility issue with most aquatic plants. The long strands of Dwarf Hairgrass are generally exempted from danger because many fish breeds generally nip leaves of the plants but the strands are not nipped that much. The strands also work as a shelter for various bottom-dwelling fish breeds.

Which Species are Comfortable to Live with Dwarf Hairgrass?

Most of the freshwater fish breeds like green eco-friendly environments because they prefer living in a natural ambiance surrounded by various aquatic plants. Now you need to know about the suitable tankmates of Dwarf Hairgrass that are comfortable to live in a tank that is surrounded by this aquatic herb.

1.      Molly Fish

Molly Fish is an active and social fish, and prefer living in a nature-friendly environment. The thick strands of the Dwarf Hairgrass hide it from the predators and help it laying eggs on the strands at the bottom part of the aquarium. Molly Fish is not a nipper, so it will never eat or destroy the strands of the Dwarf Hairgrass. Therefore, it is one of the suitable companions of Dwarf Hairgrass.

2.      Tetra Fish

Tetras can be of different types, Cardinal Tetra, Neon Tetra, Pristella Tetra, and Silvertip Tetra. Tetras are comfortable to live in an aquarium surrounded by the strands of Dwarf Hairgrass.
It is a nipper fish, but the strands of Dwarf Hairgrass are so long and thick that any nipper fish cannot damage them. If the strands of the plant are eaten, still they will grow denser because its growth is faster than other plants. Hence, Tetras are also suitable tankmates of Dwarf Hairgrass.     

3.      Bristlenose Pleco

This peaceful fish is also a perfect species to keep in an aquarium of Dwarf Hairgrass. Bristlenose Pleco is a bottom-dwelling fish, which lives on the surface of the bottom part of the fish tank. Usually, bottom-dwelling fish prefers living in the bottom of the tank, and Dwarf Hairgrass is also carpeted in the bottom part of the aquarium. So, it is a suitable tankmate of Dwarf Hairgrass.   

4.      Danio

Danio can be of various types, such as Zebra Danios and Celestial Pearl Danio that live in the freshwater tank. These Danios also like bushy shades of plants. In that case, Dwarf Hairgrass is one of the best plants which you can keep in your aquarium with Danios. This fish can also hide behind the bushes of the hair grass when it is bullied or disturbed by any fish. Therefore, Danios like the companionship of Dwarf Hairgrass.

5.      Guppy Fish

Guppy Fish is the best beginner-friendly fish that is suitable for very peaceful species and green plants. This freshwater fish love greenery and eco-friendly ambiance. Guppies are neither fin nipper nor leaf nipper, so it is a suitable fish for the tank of Dwarf Hairgrass. 6.      Clown Loaches

7.      Corydoras Catfish

Moreover, Corydoras is a suitable tankmate of Dwarf Hairgrass because it is comfortable to live in the tank surrounded by carpet plants that have carpet-like leaves or strands. Catfish is a bottom-dwelling fish, so it always prefers living in the bottom part of the tank which is covered with the bushy leaves of Dwarf Hairgrass.   

8.      Bumblebee Catfish

This is also a Catfish that lives in the bottom part of the tank, which is covered with the hairgrasses. Bumblebee Catfish lay its eggs on the strands of the leaves. So, it is comfortable to dwell with Dwarf Hairgrass.

9.      Shrimps

The invertebrates or non-fish pets also like living under the thick strands of Dwarf hairgrass as some fish breeds often attack the non-pet fish. So, Shrimps are also the good companions of this bushy plant.

10.  Snails   

Snails have hardcover to hide but they usually live under the bushes of the plants in natural water and fish tank. Dwarf Hairgrass is also a suitable companion for snails.
All these tankmates are comfortable to dwell in the surrounding of Dwarf Hairgrass because the bushy carpet-like grasses delight the surrounding of the aquarium, and aquatic species love the eco-friendly environment. Avoid keeping fin nippers and leaf nippers in the tank of Dwarf Hairgrass because they may damage the leaves of that plant.
